colbost & duirinishMelrose House is situated in an elevated position towards the end of a quiet single track lane in the small crofting township of Colbost, located on the Duirinish Peninsula of the Isle of Skye. There are outstanding views over Loch Dunvegan with Dunvegan Castle visible in the distance, as are the Outer Hebrides and the Cuillin Mountain Range to the South. The Duirinish Peninsula is an area of rugged natural beauty, abundant with wildlife such as seals (there are huge colanies of seals on the small islands of Loch Dunvegan) basking sharks, whales and sea otters. Various birds of prey are regularly seen in the area and some visitors may be lucky enough to spot a Golden Eagle or Sea Eagle. There is good salmon, trout and sea fishing also available in the local area. The Duirinish Peninsula is viewed by many as being the most scenic area of Skye with its rugged coastal paths, stunning views out towards the Outer Hebrides and dramatic sunsets. Come and decide for yourself! Walkers and Climbers will not be disappointed with the varied walks in the area with differing degrees of difficulty suitable for all abilities. MacLeods Tables, two flat topped mountains dominating the peninsula, are a must for all walkers to enjoy the most spectacular views.
